Knowles Farm is a perfect base for your holiday. It’s as remote as you need for peace and quiet but close enough to entertainment for kids if you want some peace and quiet of your own!If you’re worried about finding enough for your children to do, Pembrokeshire is for you. With all the beaches, theme parks, watersports and much more they’ll be kept well and truly content. When it comes to beaches, you simply won’t find better. And that’s a promise. The quality of our beaches, their cleanliness and beauty were a well kept secret until the last decade. Now surfers, sunseekers and boaters are coming from far and wide and they’re bringing with them better and better facilities. Crowded beaches? No chance. There are far too many! Walking along Pembrokeshire’s dramatic coastline, discovering the culture that goes back thousands of years… it all adds up to a most peaceful and relaxing break. Wales is a land of rich cultural heritage, its people proud of their own past. Carew Castle is just one beautiful example of the castles dotted around this ancient land. Romans found the locals too proud to control, Normans managed to create a foothold with dozens of forticifations. In the end Pembrokeshire became the birthplace of the most powerful dynasty in Mediaeval Europe – the Tudors. But not all of the locals try to leave a permanent mark of their passing. Dozens of species of birds, many migratory, make the Coast and Islands their home. The puffins on Caldey and Skomer are just one of the perrennial favourites for bird lovers. There are regular boat trips around the coast and sailing up and down the Estuary gets you close to some of the most beautiful landscape in Britain. The National Park Coastal Footpath takes you through miles of changing scenery, from the pretty rolling farmland around Knowles, to the mysterious Preseli Hills – home of the Bluestone used by our ancestors to build the stone circle at Stonehenge. All this is on your doorstep when you stay at Knowles Farm. And what better to cap a day’s exploring than to eat in the fine pubs and restaurants dotted around the area. Or perhaps you’ll be so relaxed after a long bath in the evening you’ll just want to enjoy a delicious dinner in front of an open fire at the house. To see details of all the best beaches in the county, click on the excellent Pembrokeshire Tourism Beach Guide logo. If that doesn’t persuade you to get in your car now, perhaps you would prefer something a little more exciting… If you haven’t heard of Oakwood, don’t worry – you soon will. Pembrokeshire’s people love watersports. Sailing, diving, waterskiing, surfing , windsurfing, canoeing or simply messing about in boats. It’s Cornwall without the crowds – or the M5.
